To support its continued growth the business has created a new Financial Controller role that presents the right candidate with a unique opportunity to work closely with an experienced management team with a track record of scaling fast-growing businesses.


As Financial Controller, you would lead the finance function of the business and report to the Finance Director. This includes all day-to-day finance processes, banking & treasury processes, tax compliance, monthly financial reporting, budgeting and the annual audit. You would continuously seek opportunities to improve finance systems and processes in the context of a fast-scaling business and would produce insightful and timely analysis, reports and recommendations. You would work closely with the Finance Director and make a key contribution to strategic initiatives such as international tax planning and corporate finance projects. You would be assisted by a Finance Manager and interface with a BI & Risk Manager and Supply Chain Manager. The ideal candidate can demonstrate a track record of achievement, is ambitious, is very enthusiastic about working in a fast-growing business and thrives in a fast-paced collegial environment.


  • Lead the finance team and scale it as the business continues to grow.
  • Continuously improve finance systems as the business scales (currently using Xero, Unleashed, Receipt Bank).
  • Continuously improve all finance processes, ensuring that processes are documented, controls are well designed and operating well in practice.
  • Ensure we are compliant with all taxation requirements in every country the business operates (currently UK, USA, China) and that the transfer pricing agreements between group companies are operating as designed.
  • Optimise working capital in the business by analysing trends in working capital, understanding the drivers and making improvement recommendations.
  • Manage the treasury function of the business including cash flow planning and forex management
  • Prepare six-month budgets for the business and provide budget holders with enough actual and latest forecast information to manage their budgets
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and a finance reporting pack including performance vs budget, balance sheet analysis, updated full year forecasts and a narrative report with points to note and recommendations (currently delivered using an Excel financial model).
  • Lead the annual audit process and preparation of annual financial statements

Job requirements

Is this the right role for you?

You should have at least four years’ experience at Financial Controller level in industry, be a fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) and demonstrate mastery of both financial and management accounting. If you’ve worked in a fast-growing business and/or a business with complex supply chains, you have a distinct advantage. You probably work in a business with 100 to 300 employees and recognise the opportunity to move to smaller faster-growing business that provides a unique opportunity for you to grow in an environment of change and excitement, perhaps repeating a fast-growth journey you’ve already experienced. You are entirely comfortable with the responsibilities outlined above and believe these responsibilities are much more interesting in a fast-growing business. You have expert Excel skills and strong experience of finance systems, particularly cloud-based systems that integrate with each other. You are passionate about contributing to the orderly scaling of a business and recognise that your role in this would be to deliver excellent scalable finance systems and processes and implement strong controls. You are proud of your achievements to date, but your growth mindset drives your desire to scale new heights and you have the energy and positivity to achieve this.
